About this Series
Inspired by a scrap of writing by French poet and critic Stéphane Mallarmé:
Mere, pleure Moi, je pense
Mother, weep while I think
The series of photographic portraits are a reflective meditation on my relationship with my mother and of the language of surface in a photograph.
The images are from the pre-digital era and were made through a process of layering of media that was photographed onto instant Polaroid film which in turn was photographed again onto 4×5 film to be finally enlarged as large scale C-type prints. There are 7 images in total each 1000×1000 mm.
This work was shown at the Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney 1988.
