These images are of the legendary cameleer Dennis Wickham.
I meet Dennis on my third trip to Uluru while working on the photo documentary TerraRock. He’d set up camp just outside of the boundary of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
Dennis spent his time criss-crossing Australia in his purpose built gypsy wagon with an entourage that included his dog, camels and chickens.
I loved listening to Dennis speaking gently to his camels in a special language that he had created just for them – not quite English, not quite anything but familiar all the same.
