Wanderlust in India

About this collection

These few photographs are some of my favourites of India and mark the beginning of my wanderlust for travel and joy of documenting the strangeness of everyday life and common things as subjects.

There is no overarching narrative or theme connecting these images except for one of ‘place’. Technically they are flawed but they are here to be explored as self-contained stories from a young photographer just working out how to segment and frame reality from eye to lens. They were taken over several months from late 1984- 85 when I was fresh out of art school.

All the images belong to the analogue era and have been digitised from 35 mm transparency and black and white film. I used a Nikon FE.
