The primeval forest of Yakusugi Land is a challenging environment to photograph in. There are extraordinarily beautiful and intimate compositions everywhere you look making it all the more harder to filter out and concentrate on just one or two images.
I was particularly drawn to the cool wild moss that carpets absolutely everything and the tangles of gnarled ground roots from the ancient cedar trees that the forest gained its UNESCO world heritage listing for.
These few landscape images are a visual jotting of a walk in an extraordinary forest on a very rainy day.
Yakusugi Land is on the Japanese island of Yakushima off the southern coast of Kyushu and is part of Kagoshima Prefecture.
Series shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using a 24-70 lens and variable ISO.
